Education for Life

Today’s situation all over the world and particularly in India is very disturbing. The children and youth are like dry leaves tossed in the wind by all sorts of distractions and diversions. Therefore, besides education they need to given value education, optimistic approach towards like, constructive beliefs, rational ideologies and life promoting attitudes. Here our Constitution reminds us of our responsibility: “Besides imparting education that will facilitate the development of the entire personality of our pupils, we also strive to inculcate in them honesty and a sense of responsibility.” (Constitution: 100)

Pope Francis said that Catholic education gives soul to world. We need to give a soul to the global world through an intellectual and moral formation that can support the good things that globalization brings and correct the harmful ones. By focusing on the quality of their education and the common good, he said educators can help all understand that “we belong to one human family”. These quotes of our Holy Father is indeed a guiding thought in taking our education ministry to another level not just in terms of accomplishments but in terms of ‘Fulfilling the mission of Jesus’ as a head of the institution or as an individual teacher.

We, the sisters of St. Anne, are called to develop in the students the competencies important for global citizenship—empathy, critical thinking, collaborating with others, respecting diversity, understanding inter-connectedness— that can be fostered in numerous ways. One important way to help young people develop these competencies is through school systems. It is much easier to affect change through the levers that education systems have—curriculum, teaching, text books, classroom environment.
